Instructional (Pre-K Boys; Pre-K and K Girls): A weekly Sunday session, with coaches and professional instructors focusing on building fundamental skills. Activities focus on teaching the mechanics of proper fielding, throwing, and hitting, as well as basic baseball rule concepts. Later in the season, part of each session may include “games” against other teams.
K-1st Grade: Tee Ball. One weekday practice session devoted to skill building and development and one Sunday game played on a 50’ base-path field. During games, batters will hit off of a tee instead of hitting live pitching. Coaches will be allowed in the field and will give feedback and instruction to batters, fielders, and baserunners in between plays. Coach pitching may be introduced late in the season for parts of games, with a tee placed for players who swing and miss at three coach pitches.
2nd- 3rd Grade: Youth baseball, played on a 42’-60’ diamond. There will be a combination of coach and player pitching. No leading permitted, with one steal allowed per team per inning. Coaches still focus on instruction but the competitive element increases over the Tee Ball division. No coaches are allowed on the playing field during the game.
4th-5th Grade: Youth baseball on a 46’-60’ diamond. Players pitch exclusively. Stealing is permitted, subject to limitations.
6th-7th Grade: Intermediate baseball, played on a 50’-70’ diamond. Players pitch exclusively. Leading and stealing are permitted.
8th Grade: Subject to sufficient enrollment, 8th Graders will play Junior League baseball on a regulation 60’-90’ diamond. If enrollment does not allow for an internal recreational league, one or more teams will be formed to compete in a local or regional travel league, and any player who does not qualify for a travel team may opt to join the 6th-7th Grade Division subject to league rules and approval.
Junior Girls (Grades 1-2): Youth softball focusing on helping girls learn proper fielding, hitting and throwing techniques. Coaches pitch throughout the season and are permitted in the field during gameplay to give feedback and instruction. Rules and gameplay geared toward teaching the correct plays under different game scenarios.
Middle Girls (Grades 3- 4-5): Youth softball in a fun but more competitive environment, with girls sharpening skills learned in the Junior Girls division and utilizing those skills to continue developing a strong “softball I.Q.” and a passion for the game.
Senior Girls (Grades 6-7-8): Junior League softball with rules designed to enhance game play and aid in the transition to high school varsity for those who plan to play. In addition to parent volunteer coaches, current high school players will serve as coaches, to foster a better connection with players.
